Does The Sharp Pog Multi-Tool Sharpener Work?
The short answer about the Sharp Pog is that it kind of does, but not very well, in my opinion. To me, it seems fine for the consumer market like an "as seen on TV" tool, but I can't see many pros using it. Even the patent makes statements like...it makes tooth-like shapes and is substantially like factory teeth. The patent acknowledges that it doesn't make actual teeth. It's far more accurate to say it makes slots. Others have noted a few issues:
- The slots aren't as efficient at cutting and leave a rough finish.
- Moving the blade side to side during grinding in an attempt to make sharp points creates very thin "teeth." Those tooth-like shapes tend to break off.
- It uses a lot of blade material each time new slots are put on a blade.
- The slots are spread pretty far apart compared to a factory blade.
- It won't work with carbide blades.
- It won't work to make metal cutting blades.
- Fighting to make it work for a minute or longer causes more pain than it is worth.
- Some have complained about the life of the product.
- Won't do wide blades.
Comparing it to the Tigers Teeth Blade Sharpener
The Tigers Teeth Blade Sharpener system is far and away better for several reasons:
- The Tigers Teeth makes actual teeth on a blade.
- It's super fast...takes just seconds to put new teeth on a blade.
- Teeth Per Inch and teeth size can be varied.
- Works with steel, bi-metal, and carbide blades.
- Sharpens many other blades like circular saw blades, jig saw reciprocating blades, hole saws, drill bits, and more.
